Freezing Nights

Freezing Nights Program

The Freezing Nights program began in 2004 with several Churches and concerned citizens. The reality that there is no emergency shelter in the City of Puyallup led these groups to organize a volunteer program that would house shelter-less individuals in local church buildings on nights when the temperature drops below 40 degrees. Freezing Nights has extended to include every night from November through March each year.

Currently 10 churches in Puyallup take a particular night of the week to host or alternate their week with another church. Another church participates by providing and coordinating the transportation.

The Homeless Guests go to one of two pick-up locations and then are transported to the host church for that night around 7 PM. While there they share in an evening snack, visit with the staff and other guests, play games, watch a movie, etc. They sleep from about 10:30 PM to 6 AM. Then breakfast is served, they pack up, and head on their way around 7 AM.

This ministry is always in need of donations. Donations of Blankets, Pillows, Sheets, Sleeping Mats, Shoes, Clothes, Hygiene Products, Towels, etc are always accepted. To make arrangements for these donations you can contact the Coalition at puyalluphomelesscoalition@gmail.com. Financial Donations are also gladly accepted. Checks can be made payable to “Homeward Bound in Puyallup” and mailed to PO Box 800, Puyallup, WA 98371.

Freezing Nights Program is sponsored by the Puyallup Homeless Coalition. For more information or to find out how to volunteer call (253) 845-2897 ext. 777 or e-mail the Coalition at puyalluphomelesscoalition@gmail.com
